Automatic bottle crate filling machine - picks up successive rows of bottles from single file conveyor and deposits them in crate on crate conveyor

The mechanism is intended for placing bottles (20) in crates (12). The crates are moved towards and away from the crate filling station on a horizontal conveyor (10) and the bottles are moved in a single line on a parallel conveyor (18). The filling station comprises a horizontally and vertically movable gripper head (14) having parallel rows (16', 16", 16"') of bottle grippers. The head (14) is lowered so that its first row (16') picks up a set of bottles from the conveyor (18), moved across so that the next row (16") lifts the subsequent set and so further until all rows (16) are occupied. The head then moves further across and deposits all the bottles in the empty crate on the conveyor (10) below it.
