Machine for filling and emptying bottle crates includes an intermittently controlled conveyor belt for bringing the bottle crates in a filling and an emptying position and an intermittently controlled grab equipment for placing bottles in the crates or for taking them out of the crates. The grab equipment and the conveyor belt are so controlled that the grab equipment during a lifting and lowering movement in the filling or emptying position lifts bottles positioned in crates on the conveyor belt above the top edge of the crates. Thereafter the conveyor belt moves the crates in the filling position or removes them from the emptying position. Subsequently the grab equipment places the bottles again in the crates or on the conveyor belt.
