1497123 Roll-on/roll-off ships SALEN & WICANDER TERMINALSYSTEM AB 21 Aug 1975 [2 Sept 1974] 34721/75 Heading B7A The cargo receiving portion 10 of a roll-on/ roll-off vessel comprises at least two superimposed inclined decks, and respective lobbies and associated loading/unloading ramps 13, 14 located at approximately the same horizontal level ahead of and astern of the portion 10, the ship being divided longitudinally to give at least two sections 17, 18, 19, the decks of adjacent sections being inclined in opposite senses. Thus lobby 13 provides access to the lower decks of portions 17, 19, and the upper deck of portion 18, lobby 14 leading to the remaining deck portions. In another similar embodiment, in which there are three deck levels, a further lobby is provided amidships for the intermediate deck level, the lower deck level terminating in the region of the further lobby. The deck arrangements obviate the need for ramps or lifts in the cargo section and enable the cargo section to be sub-divided into discrete compartments.
