The syrup and water pass to the blending chamber 12 through pre-cooling coils 4, 18 and may be mixed at a point upstream of the cooling device 5 to lower the freezing point of the water. The blending and freezing chambers 12, 37 are refrigerated by independent refrigerant systems 39, 42 acting in response to the temperature and consistency of the beverage respectively. A continuously-rotating stirrer scraper 45 is mounted in chambers 37.
