Safety catch for tipping car seat - has securing hook outside hinge to grip bottom of seat frame

A lever is pivotted on the squab hinge section and extends forward so that it is easily reached by the driver. The lever operates on a linkage which controls a locking catch hinged on the seat back hinge section. This catch engages a cross bar under the seat to secure the seat back in a rigid, non tipping position. The catch is hinged outside the axis of the seat hinge and thus provides a better mechanical strength. Its position is such that it does not interfere with the layout of the seat hinge, while giving greater support for the seat belts fitted to the seat back.
