The rotary piston engine has two cylinder housings separated by an intermediate housing containing the flywheel with starter gear and the cam discs. The valve housing and ignition distributor are arranged on the outside of the intermediate housing. Each cylinder housing contains a rotor with radially slidable piston units (24). The rotors rotate about stationary eccentrics (16) thus producing the reciprocating piston movement. The cylinder chambers in the two housings may be crescent-shaped and diametrically opposed, the end of one chamber coinciding with the beginning of the other.
