The rotary reciprocating piston engine comprises a stationary cylindrical cylinder head housing (1, 9) containing a rotating annular cylinder block (7). This is sealed relative to the housing by axially extending (5) and circumferential annular seals. Radial cylinders (6) in the block contain pistons (4) linked (13) to the output shaft (8) via connecting rods (2). The rotational centre (10) of the cylinder block is eccentric to the shaft. The housing has inlet (11) and exhaust ports (12) and a sparking plug (3). The cylinder block acts as a flywheel. From the point of ignition (at 3) the connecting rod force is tangential relative to the shaft (8).
