The invention relates to a method related to a heating plant for recovering residual heat from combustion gases as well as cleaning of same. The method comprises compression of combustion gas in a compressor 2, burning a fuel with this gas, expansion of the combustion gases in an expander 4 and cooling of the gases partly directly to a heat receiving medium and partly through a heat pump system, the cooler 9 of which being constituted by cooling means in the flue gas system, and the heater of which returns the flue gas heat and the compression heat to the heat receiving medium, whereby the mechanical energy recovered in the expander is utilised for driving the compressor for the combustion gas as well as a compressor forming part of the heat pump system.
