Ski trousers in elastic fabric contain, in their lower parts from the knee downwards, pockets inside the trouser legs which are accessible by an opening with a sliding clasp fastener. The pocket contains a rectangular piece of coated fabric which is high enough to reach from hem to knee and wide enough to encircle the lower leg, fastening at the side along the length. The 'sleeve' is kept inside the trouser pocket when skiing is on hard snow, but is brought out and worn outside the trouser leg when the snow is wet or powdery to adopt the role of a gaiter, offering weatherproofing to the lower leg.
