The protective cap is for the hermetically sealed mouth of a vessel containing a solution to be sterilised, and comprises a cylindrical housing with a removable section in its end wall. Below the end wall is a disc (21) which is or can be perforated, with a perforation point (22) below the removable section (12) and of smaller cross-section than the latter. The end wall can be formed integrally with the cylindrical part (10) of the cap housing, while the disc is sealed against the underside of the wall.
