The multi-purpose grinder is for sharpening tools. It is equipped with separately driven grinders (11,4) for high and low speed operations, to effect a tooth by tooth saw feed to a grinder (11) as it oscillates for adjustment of grinder (11) amplitude and rate of saw (24) feed, to clamp a conventional saw for tooth- setting, and to redress the grinder (11) with diamond (50). All components locate on a single sub-structure (1) within the range of an adaptable tool-support (9). The latter may comprise a rotatable shaft (51) with a radial cantilever arm (52) which accepts alternative slidable clamps appropriate to the tool concerned.
