The waste heat (approximately 75%) occurring in heat engines is supplied to a circulating medium (17) by means of an intermediate medium (16) in such a manner that when it passes through the states of aggregation, for example in a pressure-reducing turbine (7), additional mechanical energy is obtained which can be transferred via a transmission (8) and a suitable hydraulic coupling (9) to the machine performing work or other units (generators, compressors and so forth). The illustrative arrangement allows either to increase the useable mechanical power of the internal combustion engine by approximately 40% or to lower the fuel consumption by approximately 30%. IMAGE
