The forced commutation of the thyristors feeding the windings of the linear d.c. motor ensures that the speed of the comb-like runner is proportional to the supply frequency. The circuit enhances the efficiency of the motor as well as improves the mechanical characteristic stiffness. The interaction between the armature and the commutator with blocks for each of the winding section controls the excitation of poles in the armature. The linear d.c. motor (1) is controlled by a commutator (2) and comprises an armature (3) with slots holding the winding (4) facing the pole switching runner (5). The design of the motor ensures that at any instant three winding sections between the poles of the runner and three sections facing a pole are available. The commutator has switching blocks (6) fired by a logic circuit (7) and each control channel includes an amplifier.
