A device for removing sprouts from the stalks of sprout plants comprises a first rotatable disc 1, and a second rotatable disc 8 mounted coaxially with disc 1 and rotatable relative thereto within a limited angular displacement. Arms 11 are pivotally coupled with disc 8 and pivotally and slidably coupled with disc 1. Each of the arms 11 carries a cutting knife 13, and for each arm a leaf spring 17 is fastened adjacent one end to disc 8. The free end of the leaf spring 17 acts on a finger 16 secured to the associated arm 11, thereby biassing the knives in towards the axis of the discs. The knives can be retracted away from the axis by operating brake members 10', which act to retard the rotation of disc 8 relative to disc 1. IMAGE
