PURPOSE:To provide a sintered material for a cutting tool and an anti-wear tool improved in high temp. characteristics, obtained by a method wherein a hard dispersed phase is formed from carbonitride of a composite metal with a specific composition, TiN and AlN while a combined phase is formed from W or a specific W alloy. CONSTITUTION:The component forming a hard dispersed phase is formed from 10-80% composite metal carbonitride having compositional formula [wherein, in an atomic ratio, W/(w+x) is 0.5-0.8, (w+x+y) is 0.60-0.95, y is 0.01-0.20, u is 0.005-0.050, v is 0.005-0.30, z is 0.5-0.9, HfZr, NbTa and WMo], 1-10% TiN and 0.5-10% AlN while the remainder combined phase is formed from W and inevitable impurities or further a component containing 1-20% Mo and 1- 20% Re in W. Because this sintered material is superior in high temp. strength, high temp. hardness and high temp. toughness and excellent in oxidation resistance, it exhibits excellent properties as a cutting tool and a heat resistant and wear resisting tool.
