The railway vehicle pneumatic suspension system (1) has an automatic compensating arrangement with a supply valve (7) and discharge valve (8) connected to respective electric switches (10, 13) which are respectively actuated by a downwards movement to one side, and an upwards movement at the other side as the vehicle sways. This operates a system of delayed relays (16, 18) so that the supply and discharge valves are electro-magnetically operated to ensure a return movement of the suspension device (1) after a controlled interval of time. This timed sequence is assisted by auxiliary relays (15, 17) in series with the switches (10, 13).
