The device has a valve operating unit (10) with a hydraulic actuator unit (11), and another valve operating unit (12) with a switching unit for controlling a part of the hydraulic actuator unit. The hydraulic actuator unit has a valve clearance compensation blocking unit (14) provided to lock a valve play compensation unit (15) of one of the valve operating units (10). Other valve actuation unit has a rocker arm (16) for providing a switching parameter for the switching unit. The switching unit and the rocker arm are partially coupled to each other. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a valve driving device.
