1. Waste shredder of the type comprising two parallel shafts (6) driven in rotation in opposing directions from top to bottom and from the exterior towards the interior, each shaft presenting a plurality of edges (10) distributed regularly on its periphery, the distance between the two shafts being such that their respective edges are not in contact when moving in rotation, the said shredder being equipped with a third shaft (14) which, on an axis parallel to those of the first two and arranged below these, includes tools (17) jutting out over its periphery and is driven in rotation and the speeds of drive in rotation of the first two shafts (6) being, to a greater or lesser degree, identical, characterised in that each of the edges is arranged on a circular helix, the twists of the helices, in accordance with which the edges of the two shafts are provided, acting in opposite directions, in that the speed of rotation of the third shaft (14) is appreciably greater than that of the first two shafts (6), the speeds of the first two shafts and of the third varying in a ratio of 1 to 10, and in that the third shaft (14) is displaced laterally in relation to the longitudinal mid-plane of the first two shafts (6), from the side of the shaft (6) in the direction in which it turns.
