ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA clip-type electrode for an electrocardiographincludes a pair of clamping plates for being opened andclosed relative to each other about a common shaft andhaving concave surfaces facing each other, an electrodemember mounted on one of the clamping plates, and aleaf spring bent into a U-shaped configuration forbiasing ends of the clamping plates remote from thecommon shaft towards each other. Each of the pair ofclamping plates has a slot at a position adjacent tothe shaft for accommodating the leaf spring passedtherethrough, and a plurality of grooves formed in anouter surface thereof and spaced at successivelygreater distances from the shaft. One end of the leafspring is fitted into a one of the plurality of groovesin one of the clamping plates, and the other end of theleaf spring is fitted into one of the plurality ofgrooves in the other of the clamping plates, thegrooves being chosen based upon the thickness of alimb, such as the wrist or ankle of a human body, thatis to have the clip-type electrode attached thereto.The limb can thus be clamped with a prescribed clampingforce irrespective of the thickness of the limb.
