PURPOSE:To obtain a Bi oxide superconducting wire material of excellent critical current density by filling a metallic pipe with BiSrCaCuO oxide powders and drawing the pipe to obtain a metal sheath BiSrCaCuO oxide powder filler wire material, and putting a hot zone held at high temperatures in a relative movement in its longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:Bi2o3 powder, and mixed powder consisting of PbO, SrCO3, CaCO3 and CuO are each burned in an atmosphere and then the Bi oxide thus obtained by burning is crushed. The Bi oxide powders are put in an Ag pipe and both ends of the Ag complex pipe are sealed by press working and the pipe is swaged to reduce its diameter, and then a channeled roll treatment is applied, thereby fabricating an Ag sheath Bi oxide powder filler wire. The wire is subjected to a flat rolling treatment to fabricate a ribbon-shaped Ag sheath Bi oxide powder filler wire. The wire 3 is caused to pass through a furnace 1 and burned in an atmosphere at temperatures from 800 to 850 deg.C.
