PURPOSE:To enhance the selective adsorbability of lithium, by applying heat- treatment manganese oxide or hydrated oxide containing lithium at 500 deg.C or more and subsequently eluting lithium with acid to form a lithium adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:Manganese oxide or hydrated oxide containing lithium is heat- treated at 500 deg.C or more and lithium subsequently eluted with an acid to form a lithium adsorbent. The aforementioned manganese oxide or hydrated oxide is prepared, for example, by immersing manganese oxide such as manganese dioxide in a lithium-containing solution. The obtained lithium adsorbent is added to a lithium-containing dilute solution to adsorb and separate lithium and, thereafter, lithium adsorbed by the adsorbent is eluted by using a weak acid or weak acidic aqueous solution to recover lithium.
