A flat knitting machine comprising needle beds (1) and mutually opposing knitting needles (4) arranged in grooves (2) of the needle beds (1). Knitting needles (4) are horizontally maintained at the bottom (3) of the grooves by needle cover rails (7) transverse to the grooves (2). spring elements (9, 10) are arranged along and above the needle cover rail (7), above the knitting needles (4), to compensate for manufacturing tolerances and ensure a guide reliable and faultless knitting needles (4) held horizontally at the bottom (3) of the grooves.
