Packing device for rolls of paper webs - has chain conveyor with stepped action and associated positioning and folding devices

The packing device for rolls of paper, plastics foil etc has a chain conveyor (2) with several socket troughs for holding the rolls (1) wherein each conveyor is moved forwards stepwise in one direction with a predetermined step width. A supply device brings each individual roll being packed to a trough and an alignment device corrects an incorrect position of the web end of a roll (1) lying on the trough whilst a further alignment device (4) aligns the position of the roll relative to the centre line of the conveyor (2). A roll unwinder (5) wraps the cylindrical body of the roll with packing material and a pair of edge folding devices (6) folds down the two edges of the packing material on both end sides of the wrapped roll. Labelling devices (8,9) apply labels to the folded sections of the packing material and to the cylindrical body of the wrapped roll. The fixing devices for the labelling devices are operated in dependence on the advancing step of the chain conveyor when the conveyor is stopped.
