PURPOSE:To prepare a binary fingerprint picture for collation by finding respective local binary pictures and synthesizing these pictures concerning an area having a little local gradation picture fault among respective areas to be formed by dividing a fingerprint gradation picture. CONSTITUTION:In the condition of N=0, the fingerprint gradation picture is inputted from a fingerprint sensor 1 and it is judged whether or not all the respective areas to be formed by dividing the inputted picture are turned to processing objects for preparing the fingerprint binary picture. In the case of No, the area to be next processed is registered and it is judged whether or not the local binary picture is already prepared and stored into a local picture file concerning the registered area. In the case of No, the average gradation degree of the local gradation picture is calculated and it is judged whether this value is within a prescribed range or not. In the case of YES, the condition of N=N+1 is set and the local binary picture is prepared from the local gradation picture. Then, this prepared picture is stored and registered to a local picture file 4. Afterwards, it is judged whether the value of the N exceeds a prescribed value (L) or not and in the case of YES, the binary fingerprint picture is prepared by synthesizing the respective local binary pictures stored in the file 4.
