In the drive system, in order to preclude the disadvantageous influence of the inertia forces on moving and fixed parts of a machine having a reciprocating working unit, one or more accumulators (3) for kinetic energy are connected such that they can rotate on the working unit (1), which is provided with a peg (2). The total mass of the accumulators (3) is equal to the mass of the working unit (1). Their centres of gravity (4) are arranged at a distance measured to be half a throw length (9) of the working unit (1) from the axis of the peg (2) which connects the accumulator (3) to the working unit (1). A crank (5) is connected to the accumulator (3) such that it can rotate on the centre of the distance between the centre of gravity (4) of the accumulator (3) and the axis of the peg (2), the radius of which crank (5) is a quarter of the throw length (9) of the working unit (1). The axis of rotation (6) of the crank (5) lies in the plane at right angles to the movement direction of the working unit (1) and coincides with the axis of the peg (2) in the central position of the working unit (1). On the extension of the crank (5) there is arranged an opposing weight (7), on the side opposite to its axis of rotation (6), whose centre of gravity (8) lies in a plane at right angles to the axis of rotation (6) of the crank (5). The sum of the products of the masses of the opposing weights (7) and the distances of their centres of gravity (8) from their axis of rotation (6) is equal to the product of the mass of the working unit (1) and half its throw length (9).
