A method of forming an acrylic caulking or sealing composition with improved adhesion is described. The composition comprises an acrylic emulsion copolymer binder with a glass transition temperature from about 0 DEG C to about - 60 DEG C. In the method, the coploymer binder is mixed with zinc oxide which is in an amount from about 0.5% to about 5% by dry weight based on dry copolymer binder weight and with solid silica which is in an amount of from about 0.5% to about 10% by dry weight based on dry copolymer binder weight.
