PURPOSE: To provide a twin roll type continuous casting method and an appara tus thereof, in which a thin metal sheet having fine crystal grain and excellent workability and surface characteristic is obtd., by rapidly solidifying and cooling molten metal. ;CONSTITUTION: One pair of rolling reduction cooling rolls 4a, 4b are arranged just below one pair of cooling rolls 1a, 1b of twin rolls and the thin cast sheet 3 cast in the cooling rolls is rolled at ≤20% draft with the rolling reduction cooling rolls. Successively, the thin cast sheet is rapidly cooled at ≥700°C/sec cooling rate by running while bringing it into contact with the peripheral surface of one side of the rolling reduction cooling rolls. By this method, the fine crystal grain in the cast sheet is obtd. and the thin metal sheet having excellent workability and surface characteristic can be obtd. Further, the thermal load of the cooling roll is reduced and also, the cooling effect of the cast sheet by the rolling reduction cooling roll can be improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
