CONTROLLED RELEASE OF STEROID FROM SUGAR COATING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of controlling hormonal steroid release rate characteristics and its utilization in vivo and useful as compressed and sugar-coated medicinal tablets by controlling a blended amount of microcrystalline cellulose. SOLUTION: The objective composition comprises 100 wt.% of (A) a sugar (preferably white sugar), approximately 0.1-20 wt.% of (B) a hormonal steroid (e.g. medroxyprogesterone acetate, levonorgestrel, gestodene, etc.) in a charged dose and approximately 0.1-3 wt.% of (C) microcrystalline cellulose in an amount for controlling a release rate of the ingredient B. In case of a tablet, it preferably consists of a tablet core containing conjugated estrogen and the above composition.
