The invention describes a zither (1) with a plurality of strings (2) and a sound box (3) having an internal cavity (4) delimited by a wood rib (5), a top sound board (7) and a bottom sound board (6). The top sound board (7) has at least one sound hole (14, 15). The rib (5) is made from hot formed steamed wood, the wood fibers (22) being substantially parallel to the inner contour (26) of the said rib. This inner contour (26) has a profile defined from three curves (C1, C2, C3) with an exponential development.
