The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for converting a multi-track flow of containers into a single-track flow of containers, the containers (14) being fed in a multi-track feed to a conversion region (U) and being conveyed away from the latter in single track, retaining their original orientation. Initially, single-track groups of containers (A, B, C) are periodically discharged from the multi-track flow of containers to the conversion area (U) in such a manner that the groups of containers are arranged offset, with respect to the conveying direction (F), both one behind the other and transversely parallel to each other, and then the groups (A, B, C) of containers are arranged, in the conversion area (U) one behind the other into a continuously removable, single-track row of containers.
