PURPOSE:To automatically record a message or a facsimile signal by controlling a picture reception means in operation when silence is detected after a response message is transmitted to a telephone line and a reception message means in operation when a sound signal is detected. CONSTITUTION:An incoming call detection means 8 detects an incoming signal from the telephone line 9, and a control means 10 turns on a line closing means 7 to close the telephone line 9. Changeover switches 6 and 3 are set to a side T and a side O, respectively, whereby the changeover switch 1c of the response message means 1 is switched to a side A. A reproduction means 1a transmits a response message to the telephone line 9. A signal from the telephone line 9 is impressed on a sound detection means 4a and a CNG signal detection means 4b. When the sound signal is detected, the control means 10 switches the changeover switch 3 to a side I and controls the reception message means to be operable. Without the sound signal, the control means 10 switches the changeover switch 6 to a side F, and controls a facsimile part 5 to be operable.
