PURPOSE:To reduce the time till reaching the recording state as short as possible by discriminating it that an opposite party is a person when any reception energy exists in the no sound state during the training of a facsimile equipment, and starting recording. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 and a MODEM 6 detect the distributing state of the reception energy of a reception signal to constitute a reception energy detection means which discriminates whether or not a human voice exists and a line connection signal and a digital identification signal are same to hand- shake and a signal from a caller is inputted to the reception energy detection means to detect the distribution state of the reception energy so as to discriminate whether or not the voice is a human voice. When the voice is a human voice, the CPU 1 switches the mode from the facsimile reception mode into the automatic answering mode to start the recording for automatic answering. Thus, the time required for the start of automatic answering recording is reduced.
