Method of producing fibrous substrates comprising the steps of adopting, for a given substrate thickness, a shift interval which is variable according to a law for reducing said interval to achieve a consistent thickness among the different thicknesses of the superimposed layers held togher to form the substrate. The invention is for use in the manufacture of friction parts.
