[ERR]AbstractGastightly sealed alkaline storage batteryin the form of a button cellIn an Ni/Cd or Ni/hydride storage battery of thebutton-cell type, the positive electrode tablet is basedon a nickel hydroxide powder of spherical particles andof high pycnometric density (d 3.5 g/[err]) as activematerial. In contrast to a conventional nickel hydroxidepowder having irregular particles (Figure 2a), a betterspace utilization during dry pressing is achieved withthe spherical nickel hydroxide (Figure 2b) owing to anarrow particle-size distribution having a maximum in therange 5 to 20 [err] and owing to the rounded particlesurfaces. The specific volumetric capacity of thebutton-cell electrode based on the spherical nickelhydroxide is consequently approximately 25% higher thanthat of a conventional positive button-cell electrode.A microporous separator having pore sizes which aresmaller than the mean diameter of the spherical particlesprevents the danger of short circuits.Figures 2a and 2b
