A process for producing an optical waveguide device including a substrate and a ridge-shaped optical waveguide (3) projecting at a main plane of the substrate (1), comprising the step of forming said ridge-shaped optical waveguide at the main plane of the substrate by abrasion working, e.g. by means of an excimer laser.
