The device includes a semiconductor sensor. It also has several operational amplifiers (3,5,8) to amplify an output of the sensor. The op-amps include an end stage operational amplifier (8) forming an inverting amplifier stage. A pull-up resistor (13) is connected with an output terminal of the end stage operational amplifier. A saturation device (10) saturates an output voltage of the end stage op-amp, when a voltage at the inverting input terminal of the end stage op-amp lies below a voltage threshold at which the output voltage from the output terminal is saturated. The saturation device may be a constant current supply connected in parallel to the pull-up resistor. Alternatively, a limiting device (20) may be provided to limit a voltage at the inverting input of the end stage op-amp so that the output voltage of the op-amp is not saturated.
