PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for applying a catalyst by using a catalyst paste adhesion preventive sheet in an endless manner without interruptint the operation of pressing and applying a catalyst paste on a substrate. ;SOLUTION: After a catalyst paste 16 is applied on an expanded metal substrate 17 using the property of the catalyst paste 16 that is very soluble in water, when the substrate 17 is pinched between press rollers 20-1, 20-2, catalyst paste adhesion preventive sheets 18, 19 are placed between the substrate 17 and the press rollers 20-1, 20-2, and they are conveyed. After the upper sheet 18 is used, the whole surface of the sheet 18 where the catalyst paste adheres is drenched using a water jet nozzle 3 in a washing tank 1 to remove the paste by the reciprocative movement of a rotating brush in the lateral direction of the sheet and the rotating movement thereof, then the sheet 18 is washed by a water jet nozzle 6, and the moisture is removed by using air from an air blowing nozzle 9 and the action of a vacuum suction nozzle 10 in a drying tank 2, so that the sheet can be reused.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
