Disclosed is a process for producing a mixture ofsulfurized alkaline earth metal salts of a salicylic acidcompound and a phenol which comprises reacting either amixture of reactants comprising a phenol, a dihydric alcohol,and an alkaline earth metal oxide and/or hydroxide or amixture of these reactants and water, subsequently distillingoff water and the dihydric alcohol, reacting the resultingbottom with carbon dioxide, and then adding a dihydricalcohol and elemental sulfur to the resulting reactionproduct to conduct sulfurization reaction.
