PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield technique dispensing with the erection of vertical column segments at the time of lining the wide part of an underground traffic road with segments. ;SOLUTION: An underground traffic road excavating shield machine is provided with a shield body 10 having a bulkhead at the front part, a cutter head 12 rotatably installed in front of the bulkhead 11 and having a plurality of expandable cutter spokes 12a, and a sub-shield member 14 removably fittable to the side part of the shield body 10, connected in such a way as to enlarge the breadth of the shield body 10 at the time of being fitted, formed in such cross-sectional shape as not to form a constricted part at a connection part and additionally provided with a bulkhead 11a at the front part.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
