PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a scavenger and a preventive agent which decrease active oxygen free radicals generating in metabolic systems in the body and exerts the effect on the prevention against various diseases such as inflammation, aging, carcinogenesis and myocardial infarction caused by active oxygen free radicals. ;SOLUTION: The active oxygen free radical scavenger and the preventive agent against diseases caused by active oxygen free radical are obtained by formulating a crude extract obtained by extracting fruits of Terminalia Chebula Retz. known as a crude drug with hot water, an organic solvent or a mixed solution of an organic solvent and water or a resin adsorptive component obtained by adsorbing the crude extract with a styrene-divinylbenzene-based synthetic resins or a dextran-based synthetic resins as an active ingredient.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
