PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a piece of equipment which eliminates the need to rewrite a writable nonvolatile memory device by a serviceman even when a ROM is replaced by rewriting the values of the writable nonvolatile memory device as initial values of the ROM when the contents of the ROM are changed. SOLUTION: This equipment is equipped with a ROM 11 arranged in the equipment and an EEPROM 10 to store operation set values corresponding to the ROM 11. When power source is turned on, the value of a check sum as the total of stored values in the whole area of the ROM 11 is compared with a value stored in a specific area of the EEPROM 10 and when they are different, the initial values stored in the ROM 11 are written in the specific area of the EEPROM 10. The facsimile equipment S has a 2-byte storage area secured as a storage area for the check sum in the ROM 11. Further, a two-type storage area is secured even in the specific area of the EEPROM 10.
