PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a VP switching system realizing high reliability by accelerating system switching. ;SOLUTION: This system is provided with a fixed cycle monitoring means 20 which includes a means 201 that transmits and receives a cell at a fixed cycle between opposite stations through a spare system, a storing means 208 for updating and managing the state of the opposite station from a cell received from the opposite station and a means 203 which refers to the means 208 and decides the state of the opposite station when systems are switched in addition to a VP(virtual path) switching means 10 which performs system switching from an operation system to a spare system VP when a fault occurs and performs system switching setting when it is decided that the spare system of a self-station does not have abnormality and also that there is no abnormality in the state of the opposite station when system switching is performed from the operation system to the spare system.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
