A substrate, such as a leather or a synthetic fleece is, on its surface (1) with a dressing (3) provided that at least two layers (4, 5) of a solidified, a crosslinking agent containing plastic dispersion are formed. The outer layer (4) is prefabricated on a hot pad that has a structuring which corresponds to the design surface of the visible side of the finish (3). To make this visible side of the finish (3) different colors, before forming the outer layer (4) is applied on the hot pad to individual regions thereof a plastic dispersion or plastic solution containing a crosslinking agent that has a different color than the outer layer (4) and having after its solidification forms a cover layer (8).
