The invention relates to a step switch. Two vacuum switchgear cells (34, 35) are provided as electrical switching means. The fixed selector contacts (n) are arranged alternately in parallel strips and are interconnectedy means of two moveable mechanical contacts (8, 9) existing in a fixed relationship to each other. A mechanical changeover contact (28) is actuated by means of an energy storage mechanism that is triggered after a prior lifting movement and both vacuum switchgear cells (34, 35) for each phase are simultaneously actuated.
