Composition for transdermal delivery of methotrexate

PURPOSE: A composition for transdermal administration containing as an effective component methotrexate or a sodium salt of methotrexate and polyhydric alcohol is provided which can be effectively used in treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for transdermal administration contains 0.1 to 20% by weight of methotrexate as a pharmacologically effective component, 50 to 98% by weight of polyhydric acid having a solubility of 20mg/g or more to the effective component and 0.1 to 30% by weight of fatty acids or fatty alcohol as a skin permeation enhancer. The methotrexate is a free radical or pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
