PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte and a lithium battery adopting the nonaqueous electrolyte with high safety to overcharging. (In the formula, R1 , R2 , R3 , R4 , R5 , R6 , R7 , R8 , R9 , R10 , R11 , R12 , R13 , and R14 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a halogen atom, a substituted or a non-substituted 1-20C alkoxy group, a nitro group, or an amino group.). Therefore, even if the battery is overcharged and voltage is raised by various reasons, the electrolyte is oxidized and decomposed to produce a polymeric product, overcharging current is consumed and the battery is protected. Therefore, safety to the overcharge is enhanced. Thereby, swelling of the battery is suppressed, and side reaction such as drop in formation characteristics, capacity, and life characteristics is suppressed.
