The present invention provides a novel isolated SER5 polynucleotide and a polypeptide encoded by the SER5 polynucleotide. Also provided are the antibodies that immunospecifically bind to a SER5 polypeptide or any derivative, variant, mutant or fragment of the SER5 polypeptide, polynucleotide or antibody. The invention additionally provides methods in which the SER5 polypeptide, polynucleotide and antibody are utilized in the detection and treatment of a broad range of pathological states as well as other uses.
