PURPOSE: A recombinant vaccinia virus for producing hepatitis C virus coat protein 2 and the expression thereof in an animal cell are provided for development of a hepatitis C vaccine. CONSTITUTION: A recombinant vaccinia virus for producing hepatitis C virus coat protein 2 contains a gene encoding the Korean hepatitis C virus coat protein 2, wherein the Korean hepatitis C virus coat protein 2 gene is inserted within the TK gene of the wild vaccinia virus DNA, and the recombinant vaccinia virus is produced by transforming a mammal cell line with a cloning vector for recombinant vaccinia virus containing the Korean hepatitis C virus coat protein 2 gene together with the wild vaccinia virus DNA; the cloning vector for recombinant vaccinia virus is pMJ IL2-E2; the animal cell line is CV-1 cell line(ATCC CCL70); and the recombinant vaccinia virus is VVLUC-IL2E2(ATCC VR2435). A method for producing the Korean hepatitis C virus coat protein 2 comprises transfection an animal cell line with the recombinant vaccinia virus, wherein the animal cell line is HeLa S3 cell line(ATCC CLL 2.2).
