Ground water is aerated using air drawn from the ambient atmosphere above ground via an air supply pipe (8) connected to a venturi inlet (7). A pipe (2) extending below the water table (W) contains filter openings (3) for receiving the ground water. A pump (5) with an inlet and outlet for ground water is mounted inside the pipe below the water table. A ground water aeration device is mounted above the pump and comprises a venturi (6) connected to the pump outlet.
