The machine has two lateral conveying drums, each being divided into a lower and upper drum body (23,24) transverse to its vertical axis. Each drum body has its own rotation axis (25,26). The rotation axes are offset to each other in the transverse direction such that the upper drum body (24) can be brought into a working position. The addendum circle (30) of the catch ring gear (28) has a bigger distance to the guiding centre than the addendum circle (29) of catch ring gear (27) of the lower drum body (23). The guiding centre coincides with the vertical longitudinal central plane of the machine.
